A Letter to Our Patients

Dear Portland Pediatric Group families,

A year and a half into the COVID-19 pandemic, new challenges continue to present themselves.  Since school started last month, we have had unprecedented numbers of patient visits and phone calls.  We want to make you aware of a few things as we continue to work to serve all our patients’ needs.

We have many, many requests for sick visit appointments every day.  We will never turn away anyone who wants to be seen, but frequently your child may need to be seen by someone other than his or her regular doctor.  Appointments often get booked in order, so if you are not calling first thing in the morning, the next available time may be late afternoon or early evening.  We will not close the office until we are done seeing everyone who has been scheduled.  As a reminder, we see sick kids every Saturday and Sunday morning as well.

Our nurses are working tirelessly 7 days per week to coordinate COVID test results and notes for return to school.  This requires a tremendous amount of telephone time.  When calling for medical advice, a nurse may not be immediately available and we may take a message to have a nurse call you back as soon as possible.  Please let us know when calling if you think your child has an urgent issue that cannot wait to be addressed.

To help with phone availability, we are asking that whenever possible, parents call the pharmacy to request prescription refills instead of calling our office.  This can be done 24/7 and does not require talking to a live person.  There are a few exceptions—some pharmacies do not accept requests for controlled substances like Adderall and Ritalin.  And of course, we expect to hear from you if there is a problem with a prescription or you think a change needs to be made.

Adapting to kids’ evolving needs is part of our job.  We cannot change the COVID testing requirements, but if there is anything we can do to make them more tolerable, please let us know.  Hopefully each day is one day closer to the end of this pandemic.  We look forward to seeing many of you soon.

COVID-19 Information

Dear Portland Pediatric Group families,

With the changing Covid-19 guidelines, we want to keep you all updated on our office policies. Currently, we are asking that patients remain in their car upon arrival and call 585-342-5665 to check in for your appointment. Our mask policy remains in place. We require all patients and family members ages 2 and up to wear a mask, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated. Thank you!
